How We Work
The Conditions
The speciality of urology is dominated by male conditions such as prostate enlargement, three of the commonest male cancers (prostate, bladder and testicles) and the huge problem of female incontinence. There is therefore an urgent need to identify and separate the serious from the non-serious cases.
Diagnosis
We can now eliminate waiting and worrying for urology patients through our new specialist local service that can accurately and quickly provide a diagnosis and separate patients into urgent and non-urgent categories. Consequently, we can reduce unnecessary costs and travel by providing patients with the appropriate tests in the appropriate place by the appropriate specialist, usually from a local GP surgery.
Accessing the Service
You may self-refer or be referred by your GP or another doctor but you need to follow the advice in the Referrals section. Our key objectives are to reduce waiting and worrying through easy access to a ‘one stop shop’ style of service wherever possible.
Investigation
Because we work as a specialist team we know which member of our team is best suited to provide your care. This reduces costs and by coming to your GP surgery to provide our expertise locally, we can reduce the need for travel and hospital care wherever possible.
At the surgery you will be seen by a specialist nurse or doctor who will give advice, a diagnosis if possible and offer any further appropriate tests from a price sensitive “menu” for those who may require further investigation. This allows us to discharge patients who need no further help but allows those who do, to choose the level and cost of service that suits them best.
If hospital treatment is required, we have an existing network of associates. Consequently we will be able to refer you to the specialist most suitable to deal with your particular problem, either privately or as an NHS patient.
At all stages your GP will be kept fully informed, unless you request us to maintain confidentiality.
